Empire Light Split Up

The Canterbury based indie band Empire Light have announced they have come to an end.  Empire Light had been together for nearly a year and played venues across Kent and London.  The bands announcement has provoked outbursts of sadness and surprize from fans.  They will be playing no future dates.

Empire Light

The band have left behind a five track E.P you can hear on their Facebook page.  Empire Light have also released the track Too Old For Buses on their Bandcamp page available for free download.  Too Old For Buses is a driven indie rocker with suble guitars and a big chorus.

Drummer Matthew Webb has two other projects, female fronted rock band Rexon and dirty rock band The Eyes.   Watch for project from the other members of Empire Light.

04/02/2013: Riskee and Ridicule – King of the Dole

Platform 5 in Ashford survived!  This is a major boost for the Ashford music scene.  Check them out for a great bar and big gigs across a range of genres.  To say thanks for the support, Riskee and the Ridicule have released a track for free!

Your’s to enjoy is King of the Dole.  This is an driven track seeped in energy that blurs the lines between genres.  A demanding riff starts the track and grabs your ears.  It drags your ears along as vocalist Scott Picking recounts a story of attending the job center and the thoughts it stirs up.  Fiery rapping delivers the tale with passion and leaves it sticking in your head.  All this is done with the aid of that riff alongside some strong drumming and genius vocal harmonies.  Riskee and the Ridicule make interesting and relevant music that demands your attention, and deserves it.

Tyrannosaurus Alan Play Their Last Gig

It’s a sad day for the Kent music scene.  To add to the sad loses of bands such as Save Target As. and Promise Me Tomorrow, Tyrannosaurus Alan are calling it a day.

Tonight at the Beacon Court in Gillingham Tyrannosaurus Alan will play their last ever gig.  For four years the band have pedaled their unique sound, built on ska, punk, hip-hop plus more other genres than there are words for.  During their four year life span Tyrannosaurus Alan have even played across Europe, playing over 680 gigs or one million by their own count.  They’ve rocked crowds from our own Kent to places like London, Bristol and Newcastle.  Across the channel they’ve made friends in countries such as France and the Netherlands.  All this has gained them over 5000 fans.

Musically the seven piece have released one album, Campaign, which received high praise including this from one unknown reviewer.

“here’s a notice to you all: the band’s album, ‘Campaign’ (picked up tonight), is storming. It’s skacore with a wit and intelligence, and just a bloody big sound, and it’s very reminiscent of tonight’s headliner. This band will be followed closely next year.”

Tyrannosaurus Alan also have a track free to download called S.T.B.  Beyond Kent however the ska scene has lost a vibrant and entertaining presence.  The band have played with the likes of Imperial Leisure.  Tyrannosaurus Alan have achieved international airplay and played a Maida Vale session for the BBC, voted one of the best punk sessions recently.

Catch them tonight and hear what all the hype was about at the Beacon Court, Gillingham with Slaves, AvaGrace and Clay Pigeon.

A Christmas Rap Thats Actually Good

Baltimore artist Jumbled has released a Christmas song.  Normally Christmas music is all kinds of terrible, all of them!  But not Jumbled.  He’s released a track which brings a little reality to the world of Christmas music.

She Wants It All starts off well, a bright trumpet and some sleigh bells set the Christmas Tone.  Then the Christmas spirit starts to wear off and Jumbled levels his anger at the commercialism of it all.  It then gets even darker as Jumbled turns it on to women. ‘..head back to the mall/she says she wants nothing but she wants it all’.

Jumble is a DIY Hip-Hop producer who takes a few ques from Phil Spector.  Get it free here.

Atlas Put The Band On Hold

Atlas have put the band on hold.  With the members of Atlas also involved in Artemis Redeemer (one of this weeks free downloads) they want to focus on this new project.  It’s not all doom and and gloom though, Atlas are going to keep their page going and the E.P they’ve made which is also yours to enjoy for free.

The band are buzzing about their new metal (not nu-metal) project Artemis Redeemer, as are many.  Look forward to big things from this band.
